On a scale of one to 10, this year should be perfect!
To celebrate the new decade and the year 2010, we’re offering our 5 th annual Best of Murphy ballot, a contest where you – the reader – rate the best people, places and things in and around the Murphy area.
As one year ends and another begins, we’re used to hearing and reading lists – top stories, best dressed, leading money-makers. But who locally does their job so well they make it as number one on your Top 10 list? Vote for your favorite bank teller, councilmember, firefighter, school district employee.
In the vernacular of the Ten-code, 10-4 means the message has been received. It’s understood that some places are the just best at what they do. Where do you go when you need auto repair?
“Hanging 10” is probably the quintessential outdoor activity. Picture blue sky, sandy shores and ocean waves. When you have the need to feel some earth between your toes, or simply re-center your psyche, where do you go?
If you’re from Texas and have been around for more than a few years, you’ll probably remember the advertising slogan “10, 2 and 4.” The times we’re supposed to drink Dr Pepper weren’t selected at random. They represent the time when most of us need a little boost. Who provides your favorite fuel?
We won’t be holding up scorecards or asking Bo Derek’s opinion. The winners are determined strictly by popular vote.
Only original ballots are counted. No mechanically reproduced ballots will be accepted.
No write-in categories will be considered.
Entries may be dropped off at Murphy Monitor office, 110 N. Ballard Ave., in downtown Wylie, or mailed to P.O. Box 369 Wylie, TX 75098.
Entries must be postmarked or delivered by Jan. 30.
Readers’ choices will be announced in the Feb. 24 edition.
So pull on your 10-gallon hat, put away that 10-foot pole, turn to the ballot included in this week’s newspaper and give us your 10-cents worth!
