DENTON — The Lady Panthers cleared a huge mental hurdle Saturday, and in the process took a step closer toward an appearance in the state tournament.
They did so by defeating district foe Flower Mound 3-2 in eight innings during a Class 5A, Region 1 quarterfinal contest at Denton Guyer High School.
The game was played over a two-day period, after weather postponed Friday night’s action, which ended with Flower Mound leading 2-0 in the top of the fourth.
Following a more-than-12-hour break that allowed East to regroup, the Lady Panthers returned to outscore the Lady Jaguars 3-0 and advance to the regional semifinals to face Lubbock Coronado, a best-of-three series that will take place this weekend at Abilene Christian University.
