The 2012 season was one to remember for Plano East’s Lady Panthers.
Finishing 35-4 overall, the team enjoyed the best overall season in school history, which included winning the district crown and making it all the way to the state semifinals in Austin.
Naturally, one would expect their accomplishments to result in a number of postseason awards, and those expectations would be correct.
First and foremost, pitcher Holly Kern was named the District 8-5A Valuable Player. Fellow senior, and soon-to-be University of Texas teammate, Rachel Scott was the Defensive Player of the Year. Jacque Anthony shared Offensive Player of the Year honors with Kristen Miles of Plano, and Karen Kalhoefer was named the Coach of the Year.
Kern also was named to the Class 4A-5A Red all-star team by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.
