At 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, Boggess PTA will offer a parent program “ABCs of the Birds and Bees Why, When and How to Talk to Your Child with Ease.”
The session will be presented by Marilyn Morris, founder and president of Aim For Success, Inc.

Thursday, Oct. 16, is an Early Release Day. School will be dismissed at noon.
Friday, Oct. 17, is Parent/Teacher Conference Day and also a student holiday.
Hunt Elementary School is looking for volunteers to help judge the school’s annual History Fair.
Judging will begin at 8 a.m. Oct. 30 and should be finished by noon, according to teacher Kelly Hamilton.

The Plano ISD Board of Trustees will host a town hall meeting from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, at Huffman Elementary School, 5510 Channel Isle Dr. in Plano.
PISD residents are invited to hear a presentation about the district’s new online “Parent Portal,” which is connecting students and families by providing direct access to the school district’s “Parent Viewer” application for student grades and attendance, links to classroom information and access to other often-used online services such as PayPAMS and eNews.
The forum will also provide the public with the opportunity for informal conversation with school trustees.

The Harrington Branch of the Plano Public Library will hold a Book Blast for fourth- and fifth-graders from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 20 (Vote for Books), Nov. 17 (Experiment with Science) and Dec. 15 (Pop Ups!)
Organizers said Book Blast is a time for students to enjoy books and related activities.
Boggess Elementary will host a student and parent Neighborhood Bike Ride at 3 p.m. on the fourth Sunday of every month. The purpose of the ride is to promote healthy lifestyles through cycling while practicing safe riding habits, organizers said.
Participants should meet at the Boggess parking lot near Mustand Park. Routes include a 1.2-mile “Bug Loop,” a 2.3-mile “Soccer Loop,” or the 5-mile “Star Loop.”
Once children safely complete any of the routes, they will receive a sticker to display on their bike helmets.
Helmets are required, and parents or guardians must accompany children. Post-ride refreshments will be provided by Plano Cycling and Fitness.

Reflections, a national PTA program that provides kids the chance to express their creativity and be recognized, is coming up.
The six art areas are Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts, Dance Choreography, and Film Production. This year’s theme is “Wow!”

Parents are invited to register for the new Parent Portal system (formerly Parent Viewer) for information including student attendance, grades, class assignments, curriculum and calendars. The site gives parents direct access into your child’s classroom information and links to other services.
