A number of Plano East softball players earned All-District recognition for their efforts during the 2008 season.
Leading the way was junior hurler Taylor Jones, who was named Pitcher of the Year.
Named to the first team were senior catcher Danielle Tharp, senior first baseman Sara Watson, sophomore shortstop Aarionte Au-stin and senior outfielder Nicki Duff.
“It’s a good reward for four years of hard work to be on the first team,” Wat-son said.
Making the second team were junior infielder McKenna Brown and sophomore outfielder Lauren Peterson.
Watson, Tharp, Duff, Brown and Meg Newman also were named to the All-Aca-demic team.
Other District 9-5A players who received individual recognition were senior Plano shortstop Brittany Griffiths (Most Valuable Player), West senior Paige Burke and Plano senior Dana Oriens (co-Cat-chers of the Year), West junior Christina Roos-malen and Allen sophomore Erin Martin (co-Off-ensive Players of the Year), Allen senior Karen Mc-Pherson (Defen-sive Player of the Year), Plano senior Lauren Wy-man (Utility Play-er of the Year) and Allen freshman Jordan Rowe (Freshman of the Year).
The Lady Pan-thers finished 11-3 in 9-5A, good enough for third place. Two of their losses came in close contests to district champ Plano, 3-0 at Plano and then 1-0 at Plano East.
PESH also split with Plano West.
They opened the postseason by sweeping Rowlett in the first round, and then dropping Longview in two games during the area-round series.
However, their season came to an end during the regional semifinals, when they were swept by Mesquite in a best-of-three series at Rockwall High School.
It was the third straight season the Lady Panthers have made the playoffs.
Two years ago, they made it to the third round, falling to district rival Plano West.
A year ago, they beat Rockwall in the first round and then were swept in a best-of-three series by North Mesquite.
