Crabtree attributes Plano, PW losses to lack of focus

Decades ago a comic strip character proclaimed “We have met the enemy, and they are us.”

That’s the feeling coach Marcy Crabtree has about her Lady Panthers, who this past week dropped a pair of District 8-5A contests to Plano (21-25, 8-25, 25-22, 16-25) on Sep.t 30 and Plano West (19-25, 15-25, 17-25) on Friday.

The losses left PESH 1-2 in 8-5A, a rather disappointing record considering the Lady Panthers began district play with a hard-fought win at Allen.

“Our biggest opponent this year is us,” Crabtree said. “I can say that this year, because we do have the talent.”

East will try to right itself this week, as it closes out district play. On Tuesday, they hosted McKinney Boyd (results unavailable at press time) and on Friday they’ll play at Wylie.
The second half of 8-5A competition begins Tuesday at home against Allen.

Plano West leads the district at 3-0, while Plano and Allen are each 2-1. East and Boyd are 1-2, while Wylie is 0-3.
“Obviously, it wasn’t a good week for us,” Crabtree said. “We didn’t do well all week.”

The coach added, “I don’t know exactly what is going on in their heads … Friday was carry over from (the Plano loss). I don’t think their heads were in the right place.”

The Plano match was particularly frustrating, Crabtree said. East does has a chance to recover and make a run to the postseason. Four of the last five district games will be at home.

The home matches include Allen, Plano (Oct. 17), Plano West (Oct. 21) and Wylie (Oct. 28). The lone road game is Oct. 24 at McKinney Boyd.

“They’re still in charge of what happens during the season,” Crabtree said. “They’re still is control of their destiny, basically.”

However, she noted, East can’t view any match as a “gimme” victory, especially those this week against foes (Boyd and Wylie) with a combined district record of 1-5.
“A win is a win, and a loss is a loss,” the coach said.
